Sugarbush Rules & Regulations
Below is the rule-set defined for our Sugarbush show series. Fence heights & division costs are also listed.
Applicable to All Divisions:
Pinning & Points
1. Ribbons awarded for 1st to 6th place, and division champion & reserve champion.
Points for champion & reserve champion are tallied as follows:
2. Unless otherwise noted or announced, jogging for hunter over fences classes and riding-in for equitation over fences classes is required for ribbon presentation.

- 3rd = 4 points

4. While mounted, ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved helmets must be warn at all times.
5. Jackets & braiding are optional. In the absence of a jacket, a well-fitted dress-shirt, turtleneck, or polo shirt is expected. In the absence of braiding, a pulled or roached mane is expected.

6. At least 75% of the jumps will be set at height. Class heights are listed in the show program and here. Please do not enter a class thinking the fences will be lower.

Division Specifics
Lead Line Division
Entry Level
Novice Child/Adult:
Combined Pony Hunter:
Hack Division:
Green Horse Hunter:
Lo & Hi Child/Adult:
Feature Class:
- Open to riders under the age of 12. No Trillium or “A” circuit riders.
- Riders may not cross-enter into any other division.
Entry Level
- Open to junior riders. No Trillium or “A” circuit riders.
- Up to two riders on one horse is allowed. Classes will likely be split into two groups.
- Riders may not cross-enter into any other division.
- No jog or ride-in is required for this division.
- Over X’s classes will consist of a minimum of 6 obstacles and at least one change in direction. Proper simple changes will not be penalized.
- Year-end awards are based on rider.
Novice Child/Adult:
- Open to junior & amateur riders. No Trillium or “A” circuit riders.
- Courses to be simple & hunter like, with a minimum of 7 obstacles.
- Up to two riders on one horse is allowed. Under saddle class can be split into two groups to accommodate this.
- Year-end awards are based on rider.
- Riders who ride more than one horse must declare which horse they will earn points on prior to the start of the division.
Combined Pony Hunter:
- Open to junior riders, amateur riders, and ponies.
- Ponies to jump at their own respective heights & distances, but will be judged together (smalls at 2’, mediums at 2’3”, and larges at 2’6”).
Hack Division:
- Open to all horses (including ponies) & riders.
Green Horse Hunter:
- Either the horse, or the rider, must be in their first or second year of showing.
Lo & Hi Child/Adult:
- Open to all horses & riders.
- Year-end awards are based on rider.
- Riders who ride more than one horse must declare which horse they will earn points on prior to the start of the division.
Feature Class:
- Open to all riders & horses. This class may not always be suitable for less-experienced riders. Please visit office for more details.
- There are no year-end awards for this class.
- Entry fee will be based on the size of pot (amount of prize money). Entry fee is $10 for every $200 in the pot. If less than $200 is in the pot, this class is free to enter.
